About the Institute
The Future Economists Institute is a think tank run entirely by students aged 16 to 19. We exist because the best training in economics is not sitting in lectures. It is reading, writing, debating, and being proven wrong.
What we are here to do
Our mission is threefold: to produce research that meets the standards of professional think tanks; to develop the next generation of economists, policymakers, and communicators; and to enrich public debate on the economic questions that affect everyone.
We take no institutional position on party politics. Our researchers are encouraged to follow evidence wherever it leads, to engage honestly with empirical uncertainty, and to disagree respectfully with one another and with established consensus.
What we stand for
We hold our research to the highest standards. Every paper undergoes internal review before publication, and we engage seriously with evidence, counterarguments, and methodological limitations.
We are proudly nonpartisan. Our analysis follows the evidence, not political agendas. We welcome researchers of all economic persuasions and encourage genuine intellectual debate.
Economics has historically lacked diversity. We are committed to lowering barriers to entry for young economists from all backgrounds, schools, and identities.
We don't write research to gather dust. We aim for our work to inform real policy debates, contribute to public discourse, and demonstrate what students can achieve.
Our best work happens when researchers challenge each other. We foster a culture of constructive disagreement, peer feedback, and collective improvement.
We explore new methodologies, tackle underexplored questions, and are not afraid to challenge consensus. Student think tanks have the freedom to be genuinely original.
